Why a Managed Marketing Collaboration Glossary?

At Goodsides, we prioritize building strong partnerships with our clients. Effective collaboration is key to creating content that aligns with your goals and exceeds expectations.

This glossary clarifies the terms we frequently use when discussing projects, ensuring everyone is on the same page.

General Collaboration

  • Approval Workflow: The process for reviewing and approving content at different stages (e.g., script approval, rough cut approval, final edit approval).

  • Asset Management: A system for organizing, storing, and sharing digital assets (raw footage, project files, photos, music, etc.).

  • Brand Guidelines: A document that defines your brand's visual identity, including logo usage, color palette, fonts, and overall style.

  • Iteration: A version of the video that incorporates feedback (e.g., "This is the second iteration, incorporating notes from round one").

  • Point of Contact (POC): The primary person on each team responsible for communication and decision-making.

  • Revisions: Specific changes requested to a video (e.g., "Can we shorten the intro by 5 seconds?" or "Please include a title card with the speaker's name").

The 3 Stages of Production

Pre-Production

  • Call Sheet: A detailed production schedule distributed to cast and crew, outlining locations, timings, and essential contacts.

  • Location Scout: The process of finding and securing suitable filming locations.

  • Mood Board: A visual collage of images, textures, and colors used to convey the desired overall look and feel of the video.

  • Script: The written text of the video, including dialogue, narration, and on-screen text.

  • Storyboard: A series of sketches or illustrations outlining the planned sequence of shots for the video.

Production

  • B-Roll: Supplemental footage that complements the main action (e.g., establishing shots, cutaways, detail shots).

  • Director: The person responsible for the creative vision of the video and overseeing the on-set production.

  • Golden Hour: The period shortly after sunrise or before sunset when the light is softer and warmer, often favored for filming.

  • Pick-up Shots: Additional footage filmed after the main production to fill gaps or capture missing details.

  • Wrap: The announcement that filming has concluded for the day or for the entire production.

Post-Production (and Beyond)

  • Color Grading: The process of adjusting the color and overall look of the video for consistency and aesthetic purposes.

  • Digital Postcard: A unique offering by Goodsides (explored here) that transforms high-resolution video stills into print-ready postcards. This service extends the reach of digital campaigns by converting moments captured on film into tangible, mailed assets that engage segments of the community less active online.

  • Digital Postcard Service: Goodsides’ process for creating and distributing Digital Postcards. This service includes selecting impactful stills from video content, designing the layout using professional tools like Adobe InDesign, optimizing the content for print, and advising on distribution strategies to maximize engagement and ROI. This service is ideal for broadening the audience reach of municipal, educational, or community-driven video projects, ensuring that key messages penetrate into all segments of the community, including those less digitally inclined.

  • Rough Cut: An initial edit of the video footage, used for review and feedback.

  • Sound Mix: The process of balancing and adjusting audio levels, including dialogue, music, and sound effects.

  • Titles/Graphics: Text or visual elements added to the video, such as lower thirds, captions, or animated elements.

  • Voice Over (VO): Narration recorded separately and added to the video in post-production.
